The mission of the Board of Assessors is to assess all property in the Town of Brookline in a fair and equitable manner and in accordance with the laws, rules, and regulations of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts, the requirements and guidelines of the Department of Revenue, and the Uniform Standards of Professional Appraisal Practice of the Appraisal Foundation.

  • To assess all property at its full and fair cash value as of January 1 or each year and to employ valuation methods and techniques appropriate for each class of property
  • To maintain public records necessary to administer the taxes of the Town of Brookline and to objectively review the petitions and concern of aggrieved taxpayers
  • To promote the fair and equal treatment of all taxpayers in the Town of Brookline in the administration of the property tax, motor vehicle excise tax, and all exemptions related to such taxes
